I put a sprinkler on our roof today. This is an old Arizona trick to protect your home in case wildfires come close. Yesterday a fire was started near Billings around 3pm and this morning it had grown to 1500-2000 acres. Altogether state wildfires have scorched over 250,000 acres in the last couple of weeks.
This is a picture of a path through a previously burned area in Yellowstone and as you can see there is a lot of new growth but it takes about 80 years according to the state department of natural resources for a new evergreen to reach the size of many that have burned so far this year. Around Billings it is primarily grass fires as they are routinely hotter and drier than we are.
Happy 4th of July to everyone especially all of the men and women who have served and protected our freedom.
