Two bull elk hard at work in Yellowstone National Park growing new antlers! Elk in Velvet

We were really surprised to see this bull elk still had his antlers about a week ago.  This was taken at the Old Historic Fort Yellowstone at Mammoth Hot Springs and as you can see the rangers who live in the old officer’s quarters are “well connected”.

The Park was absolutely gorgeous yesterday.  Some light, thin clouds, but evidence especially down toward the Lake of snow.  The peaks are white, but there is plenty of grass and water.  Just look at these elk and you’ll see how healthy and happy they are.  We got a big bull elk, Momma elk, and her [...]

Fall in Yellowstone means bull elk bugling, aspen turning golden, a light dusting of snow, and very, very, very hungry bears fattening up for winter!! Look at the claws on this grizzly resting along the Lamar River after eating his fill.
