Forty years ago Doug and I saw our first grizzly bear in the Hayden Valley of Yellowstone National Park. Grandma Dora photographed this grizzly in the Lamar Valley near the Lamar Buffalo Ranch a year or two ago.  He had just come out of hibernation as you can tell by the length of his claws. [...]

Fall in Yellowstone means bull elk bugling, aspen turning golden, a light dusting of snow, and very, very, very hungry bears fattening up for winter!! Look at the claws on this grizzly resting along the Lamar River after eating his fill.
