We were really surprised to see this bull elk still had his antlers about a week ago. This was taken at the Old Historic Fort Yellowstone at Mammoth Hot Springs and as you can see the rangers who live in the old officer’s quarters are “well connected”.

Battle of the Bands
Yesterday was “Battle of the Bands” in the Park. We saw “bands” of pronghorn antelope, big horn sheep, elk, buffalo and deer. Really shouldn’t call it “battle” because all the animals were very peaceful and enjoying the sun – even a band of pronghorn and big horns that were all sharing the same hillside and [...]
Can’t Sleep
“When I’m worried and I can’t sleep, I count my blessings instead of sheep, and I fall asleep counting my blessings.” – Cole Porter You might want to count something other than the big horn sheep we see when we go to the Park. The females have short spiky horns while the males horns bet [...]
Yellowstone
Yellowstone is primarily summer range and this summer should be absolutely beautiful. Grandma Dora even dreamed of baby bison and elk last night!!
We’re Ready!!!
We decided we want to beat the rush – so we already have our Christmas tree up. It’s an artificial tree so we don’t have to worry about either Ruff or Redi trying to eat any of the needles since evergreens can be toxic to pets and we don’t have to be concerned about it [...]
Three Years Ago Today…
It was three years ago, Happy Halloween, that we moved into our little home on the prairie. It is by far the best move we’ve ever made. Beautiful views, wonderful neighbors, fantastic neighborhood, and BEST of al only 50 miles from Yellowstone National Park. What a beautiful day it was in the Park yesterday. I’ve [...]
Yellowstone Wonders
The Park was absolutely gorgeous yesterday. Some light, thin clouds, but evidence especially down toward the Lake of snow. The peaks are white, but there is plenty of grass and water. Just look at these elk and you’ll see how healthy and happy they are. We got a big bull elk, Momma elk, and her [...]
Fall
For the next two months, we locals own the Park! Fall is such a magical time with beautiful new snow on high mountain peaks and bull elk bugle in the meadows. We are so blessed!!
Who Could Ask for Anything More
Soda Butte, Bison and Snow on the Mountain – Who Could Ask for Anything More?? We went to Silver Gate, MT yesterday for a going away to college party for our friends daughter. She is leaving soon for Western Oregon University. Both girls will be away at college – Pennsylvania and Oregon. We will miss [...]
Water Park
It was really hot in the Park on Wednesday and on the way home Grandma Dora spotted this band of elk cooling themselves in the Gardner River (yes, the river name is spelled correctly – cartographers (map makers) incorrectly added an “i” to the name of the town) near where it joins the Yellowstone. We’ve never [...]
